“Proclaiming the good news of God”

Mark in his Gospel introduces Jesus’ public ministry with these words (1.14): “Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.  ‘The time has come’, he said, ‘The kingdom of God has come near.  Repent and believe the good news!’”.  Mark then proceeds, in the rest of ch 1, to record how Jesus did just that.  We are called to “proclaim the good news of the kingdom” (Mt 24.14).  So, how can we imitate and learn from Jesus’ example?  Since his first coming and Pentecost, the Kingdom of God is already here, for those with the eyes of faith.  See Jesus’ words at Mk 9.1: “some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the Kingdom of God has come with power”.
